V. JOHN GRUBENHOFF
John has extensive experience as a business executive and consultant, working predominantly in Fortune 500 firms. Having begun his career as an engineer, he is able to bridge between two aspects of business that are frequently at odds: the technical/hard side and the human/interpersonal side. For the last thirty years, he has specialized in helping leaders change their organizational culture and build high-performing management teams. In recent years, executive coaching has formed the core of his practice.
John retired from AT&T having worked for a number of their subsidiaries. He held positions in Finance, Manufacturing, Engineering, Marketing, Human Resource Development, Executive Coaching, Consulting and Customer Service. Both as an independent consultant and a Vice President with Senn-Delaney Leadership Consulting Group, he has worked in a variety of industries, including telecommunications, high technology, natural gas, electric power, manufacturing and retail. His clients have included: British Telecom, Pacific Bell, Ameritech, Duke Power, Michigan Consolidated Gas, British Gas, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Hewlett-Packard, International Truck and Engine Corp., and Payless ShoeSource.
John holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio Northern University, an MBA from the Ohio State University and a Masters in Organization Development from Case Western Reserve University. He is a graduate of the Executive Program at the University of North Carolina, the Graduate Organizational Development Program at Columbia University, and the Specialist in Organization Development program from National Training Labs.
John lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his wife, Deb. He has a daughter at UNC-Chapel Hill, three grown children and is the proud grandfather of five. John enjoys baseball and is currently on a quest to see at least one game in every major league ballpark in the country. He is also an avid collector of jazz music, with over 300 versions of the song “Body and Soul.” He is a Board Member for the Cornucopia House cancer resource and support center.
